Speaker led Parliamentary Delegation Concludes Official Engagement in England

London: The Tibetan parliamentary delegation, led by Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and consisting of MPs Dawa Tsering and Ratsa Sonam Norbu, concluded their official engagement in England on 21st November 2024. They were accompanied by Representative Tsering Yangkyi and a staff of the Office of Tibet (London), staff from the NDI and USAID, as well as program officers from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s Parliamentary Secretariat.

The delegation concluded their London study mission program with an engaging session led by consultant Ian Gill, focusing on two critical themes: Political Communications: Enhancing Messaging and Advocacy and Learning, Monitoring, and Evaluation: Reflections and Future Applications.

The first session delved into the fundamentals of effective political communications, emphasizing messaging strategies, the importance of cultivating a strong personal and professional brand, and mastering the intricacies of policy development. Participants explored international best practices, learning to craft compelling narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. A significant focus was placed on amplifying Tibet’s profile on the global stage, using values-based storytelling and cause-driven connections to shed light on the challenges faced under authoritarian regimes.

The second session centered on consolidating key insights from the week’s discussions, with an emphasis on applying these learnings within their unique context. The delegation also explored strategies to integrate robust monitoring and evaluation practices to strengthen advocacy and policy initiatives, ensuring their efforts are both impactful and sustainable.

The final day of the program provided valuable tools and strategic insights to enhance advocacy and communication efforts. It underscored the importance of thoughtful storytelling, continuous learning, and systematic evaluation to achieve meaningful impact. As the study mission concluded, the delegation was well-equipped to apply these lessons, advancing their efforts to address pressing challenges and promote justice and human rights on a global scale.
