Dharamshala, 23 Feb 2026: Environmental conservationist Marimuthu Yoganathan, popularly known as the “Tree Man of India,” along with environmental activist and social worker Mohan Chandra Kandpal and others, visited the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile earlier this morning.

They were panellists in a discussion titled “Planet, People, and Compassion – Advancing Environmental Conservation through Shared Global Responsibility,” organized by the Tibet Policy Institute of the Central Tibetan Administration. The event was held in celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s 90th birth year and his lifelong commitment to environmental conservation.

The panellists were introduced to the evolution, composition, and functions of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile by Standing Committee Member Parliamentarian Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen, who also provided them with a guided tour of the parliament hall.

Following the tour, the environmental experts met with Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang in the Standing Committee’s hall, where she provided a brief overview of the Sino-Tibetan conflict and highlighted the environmental significance of the Tibetan Plateau.

Applauding the visiting guests for their activism in environmental protection, the Deputy Speaker explained how the policies and activities of the Chinese Communist government are affecting Tibet’s fragile environment, including unrestrained mining, deforestation, and river diversions, among other practices.
