Dharamshala: As part of the official visitation program of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Members of Parliament Karma Gelek and Dr. Rigzin Lhundup successfully concluded their official visit to the Dalhousie Phuntsokling Tibetan Settlement.
The parliamentarians arrived at the settlement on the afternoon of 26 June 2026. Upon their arrival, they visited Loseling Dolma Lhakhang (Tara Temple) to pay their respects, followed by a meeting and discussion with its administrators.
They then toured the local Tibetan market, visited the Gyuto Assembly Hall, and inspected the staff quarters of the Handicraft Centre.
The MPs also inspected Tsering House and Kalsang House within the settlement, met with camp leaders and section heads, and concluded the day’s scheduled programs.
On 27 June 2026, the parliamentarians visited and held meetings with the heads and executive members of various local offices and organizations, including Tsechen Dawoe Ling, the Local Tibetan Assembly, the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, the Health Clinic, the School, the Settlement Office, the Handicraft Centre Office, Men-Tsee-Khang, the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, the Tibetan Women’s Association, and the Regional Global Tibetan Movement for the Middle Way Approach.
Following these meetings, the MPs met with Smt. Asha Kumari, former Member of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Dalhousie constituency. They expressed their gratitude for her long-standing support of the Tibetan cause and the local Tibetan community. The parliamentarians also briefed her on the critical situation inside Tibet, with particular emphasis on the Chinese government’s colonial boarding school system and its policies aimed at eradicating the Tibetan language, culture, and identity.
At noon, they met with retired Army officer Dr. (Capt.) G.S. Dhillon, Chair of Dalhousie Public School and President of the Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society. The meeting focused on issues related to Tibet and continued until 12:40 p.m.
In the afternoon, the parliamentarians held a meeting and discussion at the Settlement Officer’s office, followed by a public gathering at the community hall, where they addressed members of the local Tibetan community. During the public meeting, the two MPs spoke about the lifelong contributions and remarkable achievements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, as well as the current critical situation inside Tibet. The program concluded with public appeals, feedback from attendees, a question-and-answer session, and clarifications on various issues, marking the successful completion of the official visit.
