
Leh, 5 July 2026: Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and Sikyong Penpa Tsering visited offices and monasteries in Ladakh’s Tibetan settlement Sonamling in Leh.
On 4 July 2026, Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang received a traditional welcome upon her arrival in Ladakh’s capital Leh. The Speaker was received by Pema Sangpo, Local Justice Commissioner; Dhundup Tsering, Chair of the Local Tibetan Assembly; Tashi Dhondup, Chief Representative Officer (CRO) of Ladakh; Lobsang Nyendak, Vice-Chair of the Local Tibetan Assembly; and heads and representatives of regional Tibetan governmental and non-governmental organizations. Joining the regional dignitaries were Parliamentarians Choedak Gyatso and Gonpo Dhundup who are currently in Ladakh for their official visitation program.
On 5 July 2026, Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang and Sikyong Penpa Tsering, paid their respects and toured several monasteries, including Karma Drubgyu Choeling Monastery, Yungdrung Lhatse Bon Monastery, and Rudok Lhundup Choding Monastery.
They also visited the ongoing construction site of the Jangchup Choeten (stupa) being built in honour of Tibetan martyrs. At each monastery, the Speaker and the Sikyong received a warm welcome and were briefed by monastery representatives on their activities and developments.
The delegation subsequently visited the offices of the Chief Representative Office, the Local Tibetan Justice Commission, the Local Tibetan Assembly, the Tibetan Cooperative Society, the Health Clinic, the Tibetan Career Centre, the Leh-Jang Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL), the Religion and Culture Committee, and the Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute) and its branch. Noting the positive changes and developments in the region, they also inspected the old guest house and building. They also visited Aa Ka Ma Tours and Travels, an enterprise operating under the Tibetan Cooperative Society.
Today, the Speaker and the Sikyong also visited Thiksey Monastery, where they were granted an audience with Kyabje Thiksey Rinpoche at the Rinpoche’s Phodrang (residence). The audience was also attended by Chief Justice Commissioner Yeshi Wangmo.
Throughout the visit, the Speaker and the Sikyong were accompanied by local Tibetan dignitaries and staff members of the Chief Representative Office.
Later this evening, the Speaker attended a dinner hosted at the Grand Dragon Hotel for dignitaries of the Union Territory of Ladakh and the leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration’s three democratic pillars. The dinner was joined by parliamentarians Choedak Gyatso and Gonpo Dhundup.
