
Dharamshala:On 20 August 2026, Parliamentarians Tenpa Yarphel and Gyaltsen Choekye Gagya paid an official visit to Sambhota school, monasteries, and the Shakabpa residence in Kalimpong, and met local Tibetans.
At 9:00 AM on the same day, accompanied by the Kalimpong Settlement Officer and the Chair of the Local Tibetan Assembly, the two parliamentarians attended the morning assembly at Sambhota Tibetan School Kalimpong. After being welcomed by all the teachers and students, they delivered an address to the staff and students.
Following that, they paid pilgrimage visits to Sakya Tsechen Monastery, Sed Gyud monastery, and Zekar Monastery. They also visited the Shakabpa residence in Kalimpong, where they met with the eldest son of Tsepon W. D. Shakabpa, who provided an overview of Tibetan historical events recounted in Tibetan Political History.
In the afternoon, at the Mani Lhakhang hall, a public gathering of local Tibetans in Kalimpong was held, during which the two parliamentarians addressed the public and conducted a Q&A session.
