Deputy Speaker Meets Politicians and State Officials of North East India

Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok with Shri Indira Hang Subba, Member of Lok Sabha from Sikkim

Salugara: Deputy Speaker Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, during his official tour organized by the National Democratic Party of Tibet (NDPT) to give talks on ‘Democracy and Unity’ to Tibetans in Darjeeling, Sonada, Ravangla, Kalimpong, and Gangtok, met current and former Members of Parliament from both the Houses, Members of Legislative Assembly, Tibet supporters and officials of Sikkim and West Bengal.

From 7-14 November, Deputy Speaker met Smt. Deepap Priya P, District Magistrate of Darjeeling; Shri Tashi Thendup Bhutia, MLA from Barfung constituency of Sikkim; Shri Indira Hang Subba, Member of Lok Sabha from Sikkim; Former Rajya Sabha Member and Tibet supporter Shri P.T Gyamtso from Sikkim; Shri P.D Rai, Former Lok Sabha Member from Sikkim; Shri Nakul Das Rai, Former Lok Sabha Member from Sikkim; Sri Surya Pratap Yadav, IPS, SP, Kalimpong, Shri Rabi Pradhan, Municipality Chairman of Kalimpong; Shri Lt. Col (Retd) Dadul Rinchen Bhutia, Vice Chairman of West Bengal Bhutia Development Board; Shri P.T. Bhutia, Tibet supporters and President of Indo-Tibetan Friendship Society of Kalimpong; and Mr. Nyima Wangdue, Former Security Personnel of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

During the meetings, Deputy Speaker thanked the government and people of India, especially Tibet supporters for their kind assistance and urged them to continue supporting the Tibetans in their respective States through the Tibetan Settlement Offices.  The Politicians and Officials in return also assured their full support for Tibetans and Tibet’s issue.

Likewise, Deputy Speaker spoke about formation of International Tibet Support Group, current critical situation inside Tibet, the alarming rate of 153 Tibetan self-immolations inside Tibet from 2009 to 2018, who protested against China’s repressive policies, and apprised the resolution adopted by the 3rd Special General Meeting of Tibetans that strongly condemn any interference of China on the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

On 14 November, Deputy Speaker left for Salugara from Kalimpong and gave a talk on ‘Democracy and Unity’ to the Tibetans of Salugara and successfully concluded the program.
