Mr. Choephel Thupten completed his school education from Bylakupee’s Central School for Tibetans (CST) school, and acquired his Bachelor of Arts and Diploma in Mass Media from Christ College of Bangalore. During his college days, he was the President of the student’s union and two times president of the Regional Tibetan Youth Congress.

Since 1992, he has served at the Central Tibetan Administration for 28 years. Especially when he was the South Zone’s Chief Representative Officer, he has maintained a very cordial relationship with the leaders and people of South India, Indo-Tibetan friendship associations, and consulates of foreign countries. Likewise, he provided his support and assistance to Tibetan students, sweater sellers, and Tibetan cooperatives of south India and did his best in providing better facilities to the five southern Tibetan settlements. He was successful in procuring grants from the Karnataka government for the development and administration of the office of the South Zone Chief Representative Office, and settlement offices under it, the grant amounting around 50 million Rupees until today. He was also responsible for arranging His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s numerous tours in South India and has received a letter of appreciation from the office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama for his service.

Mr. Thupten was previously elected to the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and is currently a member of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from Dhotoe province.
