Dr. Rigzin Lhundup was born in Ngamrim, Tibet to his father Dorjee Tsewang and his mother Lhamo Tsering. He came to India in 1999 and joined the TCV school of Suja. In 2004, he joined the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) and graduated with Shastri (equivalent to B.A) and Acharya (equivalent to M.A) degrees. He completed his Vishishtacharya (MPhil) in Philosophy and his Ph. D in Buddhist Hermeneutics in 2021.

From 2007-2009, Dr. Lhundup has also worked as a member of the editorial team of CIHTS magazine and as the Cultural Director of the Youth Buddhist Association. He has undertaken many other responsibilities including cashier of Nyingma student welfare association, member of the regional Varanasi Tibetan Election Commission, Chair of the CIHTS welfare association, coordinator of global Tibetan student union, working committee member of the Global Tibetan People’s Movement for Middle Way Approach, and many others. He has also translated and published several books and research papers. He was elected as a member of the 17^th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. Currently, he is a member of the 18^th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from Utsang province and is an Assistant Professor at the Dalai Lama Institute of Higher Education in Bangalore.
