Ms. Dolma Tsering Teykhang was born in Dagne, Tibet. She completed her education and teacher’s training in both Tibetan and English languages with the kind assistance from Gaden Phodrang government (Tibetan government-in-exile) headed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. For 26 years, she has worked as a teacher in various Tibetan schools for which she was facilitated by the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration.
Ms. Teykhang is a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship, the USA of 2001, where she studied Special Education and seized the opportunity of spreading awareness on Tibet’s issue to the American and international students studying there. She has served as the President of the 9th and 10th Utsang Central Executive Committee and has been an advisor to the committee for two terms.
Ms. Teykhang was previously elected to 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, and 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from Utsang province and has been a member of the Standing Committee and many other parliamentary committees. As a Parliament Member, she has always been very vocal in apprising the general public’s aspiration and hopes to the administration and has taken active participation in the official visitation, and Tibet outreach programs in India and abroad. She was the Deputy Speaker of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, during which the 8th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet and the 9th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet were held in Washington DC, the USA, and Tokyo, Japan, respectively, bringing the global attention to the common cause of Tibet. Ms. Teykhang is the Speaker of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, becoming the first ever women to hold the prestigious position.
