Ven. Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen was born in Drachen, Kham, Tibet. He learned to read and write at a young age and studied spelling, poetry, Tibetan medicine, and religious rituals. In 2005, he fled to India and studied Bon sutra, tantra, and mind studies as well as Tibetan grammar, spelling, astrology, and others at Menri Bon Monastery for 15 years. After completing his studies in 2020, he was honored with a Geshe degree (equivalent to Ph. D.).

Geshe Gyaltsen has experience in managing Yungdrung Bon’s library and its website. He was an executive committee member of Menritsang, a supervisor of Menri Monastery, and a member and Deputy Speaker of the Local Tibetan Assembly for three terms. He has served as the secretary of the Sorig Bumshi, Secretary of Cheling Bon Association, executive committee member of Tibetan Bon association, and member of the editorial team of Bon-go printing press. During his time as a Parliament Member of the 17^th TPiE, he has been part of many parliamentary committees shouldering responsibilities of chair and secretary alike. Additionally, he has taken active participation in Tibet advocacy campaigns in various countries, at international Tibetology conferences, international Bon conferences, and at different colleges. He has published two research books and more than 10 books on Tibetan culture and history. He is currently a member of the 18^th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from the Bon religion.
