Ven. Lhakpa Tsering was born in Phakri, Tsang in Tibet and came to India in 1983. With the blessing and support from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration, he received his education from Tibetan Homes School of Mussoorie. After completing his 10 standard from the school, he joined the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) in Varanasi and completed his Master’s degree. He has been a lecturer of Tibetan language and professor at the CIHTS since 2001.
Ven. Lhakpa Tsering has worked as Chair and Vice-chair of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL), secretary of regional election commission, president and cashier of Gelug, Captain of student welfare association, undertook educational tour to around 20 schools, given talks to students, teachers, and parents and participated in many expert panel discussions. He was a member of the CTA’s Education Council and Advisory Committee and also a member of the CTA’s Tibetan Terminology Standardizing Board.
At the CIHTS, Ven. Lhakpa Tsering is Librarian in charge, Head of the Department of Tibetan Language and Literature Faculty, Head of the Department of Sanskrit Faculty, Dean of the Shabdvidya Faculty, Chair of DRC, and member of Academic Council. He is currently a member of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from Utsang Province.
