Ven. Lopon Thubten Gyaltsen was born in Markham, Tibet. He became a Buddhist monk at the Tsechen Shedup Thekchokling monastery at the age of eight and began studying Buddhist Philosophy at the age of 15. He escaped from Tibet in 2000, joined Sakya Centre Rajpur, Dehradun, and studied higher Buddhist philosophy for 3 years, excelling his Phurdup Donpa Chenmo examination. In 2003, he got enrolled at Sakya Institute Puruwala and studied Sutra and Vajrayana for over ten years from numerous teachers including Sakya Gongma Trizin Rinpoche. He attained degrees in Kachupa and Lopon and served as a Buddhist philosophy teacher and Kyorpon at Sakya Institute for four years.

In 2010, he was nominated by Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche as a member of the Sakya settlement administration for three years. He also edited a dictionary for the Sakya editorial office from 2014 to 2016.

He was earlier elected to the 16^th and 17^th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and was a member of the Standing Committee and other parliamentary committees. He has actively participated in many official Tibet outreach programs in India and aboard. He is currently a member of the 18^th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from the Sakya School of Tibetan Buddhism.
