MR KARMA GELEK was born on 1 January 1962. He completed his school education at CST Mussoorie in 1985. He then got enrolled in Special Frontier Force (SFF) and served there for over 12 years. During the period of his service, he received the opportunity of serving His Holiness the Dalai Lama as his private security guard for two years.

He was elected as a member of the Local Tibetan Assembly, Bhandara Tibetan settlement from 1998 to 2016 during which he shouldered the responsibility of the assembly Chair for 12 years. He has also served as an executive member of the Central Dhomay Association for three consecutive terms and as the President of All India Tibetan Refugee Trader’s Association for three years. He served as an organizing committee member for the 80th Birthday celebration of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He was previously elected to the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile and was a member of the Standing Committee, and Budget Estimate Committee of the Parliament. He has been to Delhi on official visitation programs to spread awareness on Tibet’s issue and has visited many Tibetan settlements and scattered communities to assess public grievances. In the past 35 years, Mr. Gelek has sincerely worked for the betterment of the Tibetan community to the best of his capability. He is currently a member of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from Dhomey province.
