MR SONAM NORBU RATSA was born on 15th July 1980 in India. His father is from Amdo Sharkock and his mother is from Labrang Tashi Gomang. He completed his graduation from Punjab University and worked with the Royal Bank of Canada for six years as a Senior Consultant.

Prior to that, he was associated with FMFC, an ISO 2007 certificated American Financial Company for four years. He was also associated with many Indian NGOs imparting free education to underprivileged children and adults. Because of his work experience in varying capacities, he is well placed to work with Tibetans, Indians, and the English-speaking international community. Since his election to the 16th TPiE, he has worked wholeheartedly for the Tibetan cause. He is currently a member of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from Dhomey Province.
