Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang and Parliamentarian Geshe Monlam Tharchin partake in the 15th anniversary celebration of the conferment of US Congressional Gold Medal on His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Gangtok: The 15th-anniversary celebration of the conferment of the US Congressional Gold Medal on His Holiness the Dalai Lama was celebrated by the Tibetans in Gangtok, Sikkim, on 17th of October 2022.

The celebration was graced by Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang as the Chief Guest, parliamentarian Geshe Monlam Tharchin and parliamentarian Youdon Aukatsang as special guests of the event, and others in attendance included Gangtok LTA Chairperson Jinpa Phuntsok, Gangtok TSO Lhakpa Tsering, and others.

Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang paid her deepest gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on the auspicious occasion and spoke on the need of fulfilling His aspirations. Speaking on the restrictions imposed on religious practices, and other basic human rights by the Xi Jinping government in Tibet, the Deputy Speaker asked Tibetans in exile, especially the younger generation, to be the voice of Tibetans in Tibet by disseminating the historical facts of Tibet being an independent country with having its own national symbols.

The Deputy Speaker further urged the Tibetan diaspora to avoid engaging in spreading online slandering of each other within the community but to spread awareness of the atrocities happening inside Chinese-ruled Tibet and to counter the false narrative spread by China.

At the event, there were also vibrant cultural presentations from Gangtok and Kalimpong.
