Dharamsala : Ven. Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok, Deputy Speaker of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, offered his condolence on behalf of Tibetan parliament, over the demise of US Republican Senator John McCain to his surviving family members today.
Addressing the letter to Mrs. Cindy Lou Hensley McCain and family, Deputy Speaker Ven, Acharya Yeshi Phuntsok wrote, ‘He was an adherent of democracy, truth, human right and was an environmentalist too. Meeting His holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and also with officials of Central Tibetan Administration, Hon. Late John McCain had supported the cause of Tibet with all his heart.‘
Recounting his immense support for the Tibetan cause, he wrote, ‘As it is an irreparable loss to the United States, Tibetans have also lost a faithful supporter. We stand with you and your family and may you all get the strength to bear the unfortunate situation.’

A naval bomber pilot, prisoner of war, conservative maverick, six-term Senate and twice presidential candidate, who was often eulogized for his active defense of an America, right or wrong, passed away on Saturday at his home in Cornville, Arizona, U.S. He was 81.
