Dharamshala: As part of the Year of Compassion celebrations marking the 90th birth anniversary of His Holiness the Great 14th Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, in collaboration with the Dalai Lama Chair, Panjab University, organized an exhibition titled “Democracy: A Gift of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Tibetan People” at Panjab University, Chandigarh, on 18 November 2025.

The day-long exhibition was held at the Student Centre of Panjab University, set against the backdrop of its iconic heritage building, which greatly enhanced the exhibition’s appeal and visitor turnout.

The photo exhibition was inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Renu Vig. Other esteemed dignitaries in attendance included Lama Yeshe Rabgaye, Head of Prairie Wellbeing Centre, Chandigarh; Professor Anil Sarwal, Head of the Bahai Centre, Chandigarh; Professor Emeritus Harjit Singh Gill, JNU; Professor I. D. Gaur; and Kamal Malhi, founder of the Bodhicitta Centre, Chandigarh.

The welcome address was delivered by Professor Paru Bal Sidhu, Coordinator of the Dalai Lama Chair, on behalf of Panjab University. A brief introduction to the exhibition was presented by Rinchen from the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.

The exhibition received warm appreciation from the dignitaries, faculty members, students of Panjab University, and school children from the tricity area. It witnessed a steady flow of visitors throughout the day and was considered a great success.

In her address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Renu Vig highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting peace and harmony within the university. Professor Paru Bal Sidhu expressed gratitude to the Tibetan people and His Holiness the Dalai Lama for advocating peace and non-violence, values for which His Holiness was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. She further stated that the Dalai Lama Chair at Panjab University would continue to organize similar events to promote His Holiness’s message of peace.

The organizing team from the Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat included staff members Rinchen, Choedak, Lobsang Tsomo, and Tenzin Sherap.
