First Session of 18th TPiE Adjourns Extending Solidarity with Tibetans Inside Tibet

Tenzin Choeying
June 3, 2026

Dharamshala, 3 June 2026: Chaired by Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang, the second and final day of the first session of 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile concluded successfully with deliberation on the official resolution of solidarity on the critical situations inside Tibet, and its subsequent unanimous passage.

The six-point official solidarity motion commends the courage and sacrifice of Tibetans who have laid down their lives for the Tibetan cause. It calls for the protection of fundamental human rights for the Tibetan people and opposes the forced enrolment of Tibetan children into colonial boarding schools, separating them from their parents, community, language, and culture.

The motion further demands the immediate release of political prisoners, including the 11th Panchen Lama, and reaffirms Tibet’s historical independence while endorsing the Middle Way Policy as the most viable approach to resolving the Sino-Tibetan conflict through meaningful dialogue.

While expressing deep gratitude to supporters of Tibet, including nations and organizations, it also urges Tibetans in the diaspora to remain united in their common struggle for justice for Tibet, and in protecting and preserving Tibetan religion, culture, and language.

The official solidarity resolution was passed unanimously after due deliberation.

The house also welcomed the new Kalons who were nominated by Sikyong and approved by the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile in the previous sitting of the House.

Afterward, the Secretary-General of Tibetan Parliamentary Secretariat Sonam Dorjee read out the leave of absence of the Parliament Members, and then Speaker gave her conclusion speech.

In her concluding address, the Speaker welcomed the newly elected Kalons to the House and wished them success in carrying out their respective responsibilities. She also highlighted the need for certain legislative amendments to enhance clarity and effectiveness in parliamentary proceedings. Emphasizing the importance of parliamentary decorum, she called upon members to exercise responsibility in their speeches and conduct within the House.

Highlighting the critical situation inside Tibet, the Speaker underscored the importance of passing on to younger generations the history of struggle and sacrifice endured by the first generation of Tibetans who were forced to flee their homeland and seek refuge in exile. She further called for coordinated and collective efforts to foster unity within the Tibetan community, stressing that such efforts must begin with self-reflection and personal responsibility.

Finally, the Speaker expressed her gratitude to the staff of the Parliamentary Secretariat, the Department of Information and International Relations, the Department of Security, and the electrician from the Department of Home for their dedicated service and assistance throughout the session. She concluded by praying for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and for the swift resolution of the Sino-Tibetan conflict.

The session adjourned sine die at 3:00 pm.
