Members of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile Sworn In

Dharamshala, 31 May 2026: The newly elected members of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile were sworn in during a ceremony held at the Parliament Hall today at 10:00 a.m., in the presence of Sikyong Penpa Tsering.

In accordance with the Charter of Tibetans in Exile, the newly elected parliamentarians took their oath or affirmation of office before Interim Speaker Dawa Tsering. Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Justice Commissioner Yeshi Wangmo of the Tibetan Supreme Justice Commission (TSJC) administered the oath of office to the Interim Speaker at 9:00 a.m.

In his opening remarks, the Interim Speaker congratulated Sikyong Penpa Tsering on his re-election and extended his congratulations to the newly elected members of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile. He stated, “Following the guidance of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and fulfilling the aspirations of the Tibetan people should be our foremost responsibility over the next five years.” He further emphasized the importance of unity and collective effort in advancing the common cause of Tibet.

The18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile comprises 45 members, including 16 newly elected parliamentarians. The Parliament consists of 10 members each from Tibet’s three traditional provinces; two representatives each from the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and the pre-Buddhist Bon tradition; two representatives each from the Tibetan communities in North and South America and Europe; and one representative from the Tibetan community in Australasia and Asia (excluding India, Nepal, and Bhutan).
