Dharamshala: On 20 August 2026, marking the 7th weekly rites (49th day since the passing) of patriotic hero Rangzen Lobga, who self-immolated while holding the Tibetan national flag in front of the United Nations headquarters in New York City to protest against the Chinese government for Tibet’s freedom and independence, a prayer service was held in the sacred land of Bodh Gaya, Bihar.
Following a prior request by the regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, two Tibetan Parliamentarians currently on an official visit, Lopon Thubten Gyatso and Sonam Norbu Ratsa, joined the prayer service held from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM under the sacred Bodhi Tree at the Mahabodhi Stupa. Around one hundred monks and nuns, including Geshes from the local Namgyal Monastery, participated in the assembly.
Upon the conclusion of the prayer service, the two Parliamentarians offered a robe to the sacred Buddha statue at Bodh Gaya and dedicated prayers for patriotic hero Rangzen Lobga and all Tibetan martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for Tibet.
