Dharamsala: Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-exile, on behalf of all the Tibetans inside and outside Tibet,congratulated the President Elect Khaltmaa Battulga of Democratic Party on winning the Mongolia’s presidential election.
Battulga won with 50.6 percent of the vote on a 60.9 percent turnout, giving him the majority needed to overcome his opponent, parliament speaker Miyeegombo Enkhbold of the ruling Mongolian People’s Party.
He congratulated the President-Elect stating “Your country and Tibet had always shared a cordial bilateral relationship based on the long established historico-cultural and religious ties.”
“Mongolia is not only a country that is developing steadily but is also the country that has kept alive the rich Buddhist tradition of Mahayana. It is especially a country that has frequently invited His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and other Buddhist religious heads and has held successful visitations and sermons.”
The Speaker also wished the President-Elect with “all the success as he takes up the responsibilities and challenges of his high office and hopes that the centuries old bond between Tibet and Mongolia translate for the better and the support from both his government and public to the Tibetan cause would continue perennially.
“May Mongolia’s economy and society continue to develop as intensely as you have envisioned under your leadership,” he wrote in his congratulatory letter.
