Dharamsala : Khenpo Sonam Tenphel, Speaker of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile welcomed the Estonian MP and Head of the Estonian Parliamentary Tibet Group Mrs Yoko Aldender, her husband Mr. Priit Juurmann and Mr. Roy Strider, Coordinator for Tibet support related activities in Estonia to the Tibetan Parliament on 23 April, 2018.
During their meeting, Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel elucidated the Estonian MP and the dignitaries of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to China in 1954 and the admiration for the democratic system of the India when His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited India to attend the symposium on ‘Buddha’s contribution to Art, Letters and Philosophy’ on the 2500th Buddha Jayanti on Nov 26th, 1956. He further elucidated them on the evolution of Tibetan democracy in exile from the 1960 as well as the establishment of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, its composition, session procedure and functions.
The Tibetan Parliamentary Speaker informed them on the urgent situations inside Tibet, especially on repressive and hard-line policies of the Chinese government, under which, hundreds of Tibetans, deprived of any other choices, resort to self-immolation. He also informed them on the 152 known self-immolation inside Tibet till now. He further apprised them on the Middle Way Approach and the significance of dialogue between China and Tibet to resolve the issue of Tibet.
Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel also informed them on the Tibetan Parliamentary delegation to advocate for Tibet and its issue in different countries of the world. He also answered the respective questions posed by the dignitaries regarding the Tibetan struggle movement.
They were, thereafter, taken for a guided tour to the Parliamentary Hall.
