Dharamshala: On 7th August – third day of the ongoing Tibet advocacy program, the first group of the Tibetan parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and consisting of MP Geshe Lharampa Atuk Tseten and MP Tsaneytsang Dhondup Tashi paid their visit to the head office of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and met with its National General Secretary, Shri B. L. Santhosh.
Appealing support for Tibet, the Tibetan MPs shed light on the current situation of Tibet including the forced enrolment of Tibetan children into colonial boarding schools and others. They extended gratitude to India and its people for their steadfast support to Tibetans, as they highlighted the significance of India’s support to Tibetan cause and discussed its impact on the international stage. The BJP National General Secretary assured both the Indian government and BJP’s continued support to the Tibetan cause.
Thereafter, the first group met with Shri Prem Shukla, National Spokesperson of BJP and Shri Gopal Krishna Agarwal, National Spokesperson of BJP. They briefed the Indian leaders on Tibet’s current situation, noting that historically, India shared a border with Tibet rather than China, emphasizing the Indo-Tibetan border rather than the Sino-Indian border. The MPs highlighted the aspirations of Tibetans and their protests, including self-immolations, and urged the Indian leaders to bring attention to the real situation in Tibet through the media. The spokespersons expressed their solidarity with the Tibetan cause. The MPs were then given a tour of the BJP head office, including its library, hall, and conference room.
The second group of the parliamentary delegation consisting of MP Lopon Thupten Gyaltsen, MP Geshe Ngaba Gangri, MP Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen, and MP Tsering Yangchen held a meeting Smt. Sangeeta Yadav (Rajya Sabha member, BJP) and presented her with the twelve-point appeal letter.
