Dharamshala: As part of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s program, Parliamentarians Geshe Atong Rinchen Gyaltsen and Wangdue Dorjee have commenced their official visit to Tibetans living in West Bengal, with initial visits to Kurseong and Sonada.
The MPs, departing from their respective locations, reached Siliguri on February 11, 2025. The following day, accompanied by the Tibetan Settlement Officer of Darjeeling, they travelled to Kurseong. In Kurseong, the parliamentarians paid their respects at the Sakya Kunga Shedrubling Monastery and held a meeting with the Tibetan residents there.
They then proceeded to Sonada, where they visited the Sambhota Tibetan School and paid their respects at the Kague Samdup Dhargyal Choeling Monastery. The MPs also visited the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL), the Tibetan Cooperative Society, the Healthcare Centre, and the Settlement Office before conducting a public meeting and engaging in a Q&A session with the local community.
Before concluding the day’s visit, the MPs toured Ngayab Choeling Monastery (the monastery of Jatrel Rinpoche), Sakya Guru Donyag Norbuling, and Druk Sangnyag Choeling Monastery.
The MPs will continue their visit to various Tibetan communities in Darjeeling district of West Bengal in the coming days.
