Official resolution of mourning and remembrance*
Preamble
A sad reported emerged recently of the passing away on 30th of November in 2018 of Mr. George H.W. Bush, former President of the United States of America, at the age of 94. Mr. George H.W. Bush was born on the 12th of June in 1924 in a place called Milton, which is part of the United States state of Massachusetts, with his father’s name being Prescott Sheldon Bush and his mother’s name being Dorothy Walker Bush. He was the 41st President of the United States of America. Besides he devoted all his life to the wellbeing of the people of that country.
The late George H.W. Bush graduated from the Phillips Academy when he was 18 years old and immediately thereafter volunteered to join the United States Navy where he became one of the youngest Naval Aviators. He remained in naval service till September 1945. After that he enrolled in Yale University from which he graduated in 1948. He then ventured into the oil business and became a millionaire by the age of 40 in 1964. He also founded his own oil company. In 1966 he won election from the state of Texas to the House of Representatives of the United States Congress and was re-elected for a second term as well. In 1971, he was appointed as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Later in 1974, he was made the Chief of the United States Liaison Office in China. He went on to win appointment as the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency in 1976. Then for eight years, from 1981 to 1989, he became the 43rd Vice-President of the United States of America. Later, after winning election, he became the 41st President of the United State of America from 1989 to 1993. During his term as President, the late Mr. George H.W. Bush made untiring efforts to bring peace among nations in different parts of the world hit by serious armed conflicts. For example, he worked to bring about the reunification of East and West Germany. Likewise, when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics collapsed he worked very hard to pre-empt the occurrences of armed conflicts between the different breakaway republics based on past animosity and resentments. After completing his term as the President of the United States of America, the late Mr. George H.W. Bush took up different kinds of socials services and continued with it for the rest of his life. In particular, he, in 1990, met with His Holiness the Dalai Lama. It was a historic moment which made him the first president ever of the United States of America to meet with the exiled spiritual leader of Tibet. Immediately upon hearing the news of his passing away, His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote in his condolence message to his family and others who were close to him that during his meeting with the late United States president, he was deeply touched by the latter’s concern for the Tibetan people and the situation in Tibet. In this respect, the Tibetan Parliament in Exile also recalled in its condolences note that the late Mr. George H.W. Bush had continued to strongly call on the government of China to resume dialogue with envoys of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
To sum up, the late President Mr. George H.W. Bush of the United States of America had extended strong support towards the struggle of the Tibetan people. Even after demitting office on completion of his term, the former United States president issued strongly-worded calls on the government of China on the issue of the human rights situation in Tibet. Besides, his son George W. Bush has also taken strong interest on the issue of Tibet and is especially viewed with great fondness by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Resolution
Be it resolved that the Tibetan Parliament in Exile compliments with great respect the late President George H.W. Bush for his outstanding deeds. His passing away has been a tragic loss to the Tibetan struggle also. For these reasons, the Tibetan Parliament in Exile offers its condolences to the surviving members of his family as well as to all those who have looked up to him on behalf of the entire people of Tibet living in exile and in their homeland. The Tibetan Parliament in Exile fervently prays that all the long term noble visions of late President George H.W. Bush may be seen fully achieved and that whatever of his accumulated actions may have amounted to infractions may be cleansed and stand purified in all its entirety so that he may keep proceeding forward to ever higher levels of wellbeing. The Tibetan Parliament in Exile unanimously resolves to adopt this resolution accordingly on this the 19th day of March in 2019.
