Dharamshala: As per the program of the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, parliamentarians Geshe Lharampa Gowo Lobsang Phende and Purpa Dorjee Gyaldhong, after successfully completing their three-day official program in Srinagar, Kargil, and Leh Ladakh, started their journey towards Ladakh Jangtang by meeting with Dhondup Tsering, the Chair of Ladakh Local Tibetan Assembly and Dhondup Tashi, Ladakh Tibetan Settlement officer, Office Secretary Karma Rinchen along with coordinator Tenzin Kunsang, on 14th October, 2024, at the Ladakh Choglamsar. At noon, they arrived at Mahe monastery, also known Karma Thupten Choekhorling Monastery, where they paid their respects and learnt information about the monastery.
Afterwards, the two members of parliament arrived at Nubma nomadic settlement and visited Nubma Tibetan Children’s Village school to inspect and learn about the school’s conditions. At that time, the students presented various performances including reciting traditional Tibetan proverbs. Followed by touring of the new area of Nubma nomadic settlement. At 6:00 PM, a public meeting was convened at the Nubma nomadic settlement’s community hall where the MPs gave speeches to the public, and provided detailed answers and explanations in response to questions and opinions from the public.
The next morning, on the 16th Oct, they departed from Nubma nomadic settlement and arrived at Kakshung nomadic settlement where they received a warm welcome from the people of Kakshung nomadic settlement, a public meeting was convened in the assembly hall thereafter. The two members of parliament gave speeches to the public, after which they provided detailed answers and explanations in response to questions and opinions from the public.
After completion of their program at Goeyul nomadic settlement, they arrived at Hanley nomadic settlement in the afternoon where they received a warm welcome from the local leader of Hanley, members of the local assembly, members of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL), and the public. They greeted them with ceremonial scarves and offered roasted barley flour. Afterwards, a public meeting was convened in the community hall. The two members of parliament gave speeches to the public, after which they provided detailed answers and explanations in response to questions and opinions from the public.
The next morning, they visited the Hanley Tibetan Children’s Village school to inspect the school’s condition. The teachers and students welcomed them, and hosted a tea in honour of the visiting MPs joined by the school principal, headmaster, and staff. They praised the efforts of all teachers and students at Hanley Tibetan School in studying Tibetan language and paying attention to traditional Tibetan culture. Afterwards, they inspected the settlement’s fencing and the Tibetan medicinal herb planting project.
In the afternoon, they arrived at the Chumur nomadic settlement. During that time, local representatives, members of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL), as well as local leaders welcomed the two MPs with offering incense and presenting ceremonial offerings of grain and butter. Afterwards, a simple public meeting and question-answer session was convened, during which they gained detailed knowledge about various local conditions.
After completion of the program at Chumur nomadic settlement, they arrived at Sumdoe nomadic settlement where the local leaders, members of local assembly and members of Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement (BRDL) including the public welcomed the two parliamentarians by presenting ceremonial scarves.
Afterwards, a public meeting was convened in the community hall. The two members of parliament gave speeches to the public, after which they provided detailed answers and explanations in response to questions and opinions from the public. After that, the local Tibetan presented a Tibetan circle dance.
On the Oct 17th morning, they visited a Sumdoe’s Tibetan Children village school where they were warmly welcomed by acting school’s principal, teachers and students with the ceremonial scarves and offered roasted barley flour. There the parliamentarians inspected the conditions of classrooms, library, hostel and kitchen.
After that, they arrived at Samedh nomadic settlement where they were welcomed by the local representatives, members of local Tibetan assembly, and members of Regional Tibetan freedom Movement and local people. Afterwards, a public meeting was convened in the community hall. The two members of parliament gave speeches to the public, after which they provided detailed answers and explanations in response to questions and opinions from the public. After completing all the program, the parliamentarians were back to Leh, capital of Ladakh.
They will continue their program in Leh, the capital of Ladakh on 18th and 19th of this month and they will return to Delhi on Oct 20th. On Oct 21st they will return to Dharamshala from Delhi.
