
Dharamshala: As part of the 18th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s program following its formation, Parliamentarians Karma Gelek and Dr. Rigzin Lhundup paid visits on 23 June 2026 to several institutions in and around Dharamshala, including the Norbulingka Institute of Tibetan Culture, Dolma Ling Nunnery, the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), and Jampaling Elders’ Home.
In the morning, the two parliamentarians visited various departments of the Norbulingka Institute, including its environmental, handicraft, and arts sections, as well as the nursery and crèche. They then proceeded to Dolma Ling Nunnery and Institute of Dialectics, where they met and held discussions with Former Parliamentarian and Director of Tibetan Nuns Project Youdon Aukatsang, and staff from the nunnery’s administrative office and the Tibetan Nuns Project office. They also toured the nunnery and paid their respects.
At noon, Parliamentarians Karma Gelek and Dr. Rigzin Lhundup addressed a gathering of residents from the Norbulingka area, speaking on the lifelong achievements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the current critical situation inside Tibet.
In the afternoon, they visited the administrative office of the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA), the newly constructed staff and student quarters, the tailoring section, and the research department. Addressing staff, teachers, and students gathered in the auditorium, Parliamentarian Karma Gelek spoke on the general and specific lifelong achievements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the democratization of the Central Tibetan Administration, and the evolution and significance of the Charter of the Tibetans in Exile.
Parliamentarian Dr. Rigzin Lhundup then spoke about the critical situation inside Tibet and the responsibilities of Tibetans living in exile. He emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Tibet’s unique performing arts and encouraged TIPA’s staff and students to continue their vital work.
In the evening, the parliamentarians paid an official visit to Jampaling Elders’ Home, where they met with the elderly residents and delivered brief remarks. The visit concluded successfully after they toured the home’s bedrooms, kitchen, and clinic.
