
Dharamshala, 24th January 2025: As part of the Tibetan Parliament’s Europe Tibet Advocacy initiative, a parliamentary delegation consisting of MPs Geshe Monlam Tharchin, Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar, and Konchok Yangphel began their advocacy efforts in Scandinavia, starting in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 22nd January 2025.
Upon their arrival in Copenhagen on 22nd January, the parliamentary delegation was warmly received by Office of Tibet London’s representative Tsering Yangkyi and secretary Tenzin Kunga, along with Anders H. Andersen, the president of Tibet Support Committee Denmark.
On 23rd January 2025, they held a meeting with European Youth International’s Elliott E Hamza, Patrick Wildenradt and Rebekka Sonne (Vice President). The meeting introduced the critical situation in Tibet, focusing on how the Chinese Communist regime conducts severe oppression within Tibet, highlighting the current conditions of human rights violations. Recognizing that current youth may potentially become future leaders, the meeting called upon young people from relevant countries to support the Tibetan cause. Encouraging the young participants to visit the Central Tibetan Administration’s headquarters in Dharamsala to gain deeper understanding of the situations inside and outside Tibet, engaging in discussions and effectively spreading awareness about the Tibetan issue.
Thereafter, a meeting was held with Sascha Faxe, a member of the Danish Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of parliament. During the meeting, they presented an appeal letter from the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile-signed by the Speaker, and emphasized key points. They also extended an invitation for participation in the World Parliamentarians Convention on Tibet.
Later in the afternoon, a discussion was held with Comeron Warner PhD from Aarhus University. They exchanged views on Tibetan historical background, the potential reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile’s delegation program in Denmark and other regions. They also discussed how Tibetologists are undertaking responsibility and continuing to support the Tibetan cause through diplomatic efforts.
A meeting was also held with Mathias Parsbaek Skibdal, Director of the Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy, and Marlene Corydon Harittso, Senior Advisor. They exchanged introductions about Denmark’s democratic framework and the Tibetan exile community’s democratic structure. They discussed the hardships Tibetan people endure under China’s authoritarian regime and explored how democratic countries can provide enhanced support for the Tibetan cause, sharing their hopes and perspectives on international solidarity.
In the evening, Parliamentarian Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar was interviewed by a news team. She provided clear explanations regarding the critical situation inside Tibet and how the Chinese Communist regime exerts pressure and oppression on Tibetan people beyond international borders.
Later in the evening, with the support of the Danish Tibet Support Association, they viewed the documentary “Wisdom of Happiness” related to His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s global peace philosophy. From 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, they had a dinner and in-depth discussion about Tibet with the Tibet supporters, including Anders H Andersen, Kirsten Silberbauer, Hanne Bess Boelsbjerg, and Anne-Sophie Bernsdorff.
The Tibet Support Association’s chair is noted as a long-time supporter of the Tibetan cause. He has been instrumental in connecting with Tibetan representatives, purchasing over a thousand books related to Tibet, and facilitating Tibet-related work. The meeting was also attended by the Representative from Office of Tibet London, Tenzin Yangki, Secretary Tenzin Kunga, and the Tibetan Association’s president.
