Dharamshala, 26th January 2025: Tibetan Parliament delegation concluded Europe advocacy in Copenhagen, Denmark, meeting with key leaders from Alliance of Democracy and the Greenlandic House, Tibet supporters, Chair of the Danish Tibetan Cultural Society, and others to raise awareness about Tibet’s human rights violations and the urgent need for international support. The delegation consisted of parliamentarians Geshe Monlam Tharchin, Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar, and Konchok Yangphel.
On January 24, 2025, under guided coordination of Anders H Andersen, the chairman of the Tibet Support Group, and Hanne Bess Boelsbjerg, a member of the group, the delegation visited the Christiania autonomous area located on the outskirts of Copenhagen. They conducted a site visit, paid respects at a Buddhist stupa, met with Tibet supporter Olesol, and examined his personal collection of significant permanent exhibitions related to Tibet. They also expressed gratitude for the specific display of the Chinese government’s suppression of Tibetans during the March 10th events in Lhasa in 2008, presenting commemorative scarves and tokens of appreciation.
Thereafter, a meeting took place with the Executive Director Jonas Parello-Plesner, Program Manager Richard Walakira, and Junior Associate Ms. Maria Roslyng Jensen from the Alliance of Democracy-founded by Anders Fogh Rasmussen (former NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Denmark). They discussed Denmark’s democratic status, international democratic collaborations, and the Executive Director shared his personal experience of his audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and ongoing interest in Tibet. The Tibetan Parliamentary delegation presented documents and discussed several key topics such as the democratic framework of Tibetan democracy, electoral processes, future collaboration opportunities, and potential international platforms for showcasing the Tibetan cause.
They also noted that due to current travel restrictions, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has limited opportunities to travel abroad. To engage younger audiences, they are promoting the documentary “Wisdom of Happiness” about His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s life. The meeting concluded with positive agreements, and Tibetan Parliamentarian Lhagyari Namgyal Dolkar participated in discussions about spreading awareness through social media channels.
This was followed by a meeting at the Greenlandic House in Copenhagen with Lars Lerche, the house’s director. They discussed the current status and situation of Greenlan, comparative discussions about Chinese government suppression in Tibet, and potential future collaborative opportunities. The meeting featured open exchanges about the comparable challenges faced by their respective regions, with both parties sharing insights and exploring potential areas of mutual cooperation.
A dinner meeting was organized by Grethe Sorvig, Chairperson of the Danish Tibetan Cultural Society. The gathering included the Chair and Executive Committee members of the Danish Tibetan Association, former members, and Tibet Support Group leaders. They discussed Tibet-related advocacy effort and delved into various strategies and work approaches for relevant stakeholders. The meeting was attended by the Representative and Secretary of the Office of Tibet, as well as Tibet Support Group Chair and a member. During the meeting, participants exchanged insights, provided guidance, and discussed collaborative approaches for supporting the Tibetan cause.
On January 25, 2025, the Denmark Tibetan Association organized a gathering in Copenhagen for local Tibetan residents. The event included speeches, Q&A session, discussion of Tibet’s current status, and dialogue about future responsibilities for Tibet’s national and cultural preservation. Participants engaged in open discussions about advocacy efforts in Denmark. The delegation successfully concluded Tibet advocacy effort in Denmark.
