Parliamentarian Mrs. Samten Choedon’s Ladakh visit concluded successfully

Dharamsala : As per the designated schedule of Tibetan settlements official visitation by the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Parliamentarian Mrs. Samten Choedon’s official visit to the Tibetan settlements under the jurisdiction of Sonamling Tibetan settlement office, situated at Leh Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir State, India, from 27th July 2017 to 14th August, 2017 was concluded successfully with her return to Bylakuppee on Aug 14.

The parliamentarian left for Delhi from Bylakuppe on July 25 and was received by the Coordinator Mr. Dhondup Gyalpo, local Justice Commissioner Mr. Pema Sangpo and Chairman of the Local Tibetan Assembly upon her arrival there on July 27.

With the onset of her schedule from July 28, she met and engaged in active discussion with the camp leaders, local dignitaries, general public and the students.  At Sonamling Tibetan settlement, she visited the offices of the Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement, local Justice Commission, Local Tibetan Assembly, Cooperative Society as well as the office of TCV school. She also visited the primary health clinic, old age home, local project sites related to agrarian and drainage and Men-Tsee-Khang (Tibetan  Medical & Astro. Institute) at Choklamsar.

She also visited the Tibetan nomadic clusters at Changthang, namely, Nyoma, Kagshung, Goyul, Hanley, Sumdho, Samedh, Maque, Chushul and Churmur.

On her visit to these various places, she intimated herself with the grievances concerning their welfare and administration by holding public talks and exchanging opinions.

A general meeting with the local authorities of Tibetan communities was conducted and addressed the public eight times. She elucidated the gathering on the life-long endeavor of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for the Tibet cause and the welfare of Tibetans, the political outlook of the Central Tibetan Administration, the critical situations inside and outside Tibet, outline and the evolution of democracy in exiled Tibetan community as well as on the duties and responsibility of being Tibetan. She also engaged in question-answer session with both the teachers and the students.

This visit, in particular, was highlighted by the active discussion between the Parliamentarian and the members of the Women’s Association (Ama Tsogpa), Ladakh  and Youth Wing, Ladakh on the critical situation of Tibetans.

This itinerary of 21 days concluded successfully with her comprehensive inquiry and intimation about the conditions of destitute and recording of the grievances concerning public, schools and monasteries.

The grievances as per chronicled by the Parliamentarian will be forwarded to the concerned departments of the Central Tibetan Administration under the Cabinet for effective grievance redressal through the standing committee of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.
