Dharamshala, 26th August, 2024: Kasur Karma Yeshi, with a two-third majority votes, was elected as the new Chairman of Public Service Commission of Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) today during the 162nd meeting of the Standing Committee of the 17th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.
As per clause (1) and (2) of Article (101) in the Charter of Tibetans in Exile, the ad hoc Nomination Committee submitted the list of candidates, viz., Kasur Karma Yeshi, Former Finance Minister of CTA and Mr.Tsultrim Dorjee, Tibetan Settlement officer of Kullu Manali.
Kasur Karma Yeshi was born in exile in 1965. He did his schooling from CST Puruwala, Poanta Sahib and Dalhousie. After a few months’ military training, he pursued higher studies and earned degrees in B.A. (Hons.) and B.Ed from Punjab University, Chandigarh. At the same time, he served as the Member of Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement and Regional Tibetan Youth Congress of Chandigarh wings.
From 1990 to 1994, he taught at the CST Puruwala, Himachal Pradesh.
Simultaneously he served as the President of Local Tibetan Assembly, Regional Tibetan Freedom Movement and Regional Tibetan Youth Congress.
From 1995 to 2001, he was elected as the Vice-President of Central Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) for two terms. He took part in a 26-day fast-unto-death protest in front of the United Nations office in Geneva during the UN Human Rights Commission meeting there in 1999. He was imprisoned for taking part in Tibetan protest actions, led many workshops and leadership training for Tibetans, and attended many national and international conferences representing TYC.
From March 2003 to May 2011, he was the Editor-in-Chief of the Voice of Tibet radio news service.
In 2004, he was elected to the 13th Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies (ATPD) in a July 2004 by-election. And in 2006 and in 2011, he got elected to the 14th and 15th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile from U- tsang province, respectively.
On 1st June, 2016, he was elected by the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile as a Finance Minister in the 15th Kashag of CTA and served for five years until May 26, 2021.
