Dharamsala: As per the invitation cordially extended to the Speaker of 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Ven. Khenpo Sonam Tenphel by the Tibetan community of Swiss and Liechtenstein for the 7 days program from Aug 31 to 6 Sept was concluded successfully.
On Sept 4, the Tibetan Parliamentary Speaker met with Mario Fehr, member of the Swiss National Council and the Regierungsrat of the Zurich canton, Martin Burki, Vice President of the Municipal Council, Zurich, Swiiss.
He also met with Maya Graf, the former Speaker of National Council of Switzerland and Green Party parliamentarian and Prisca Birrer Heimo, Social Democratic parliamentarian and also the President of Swiss Foundation for Consumer Protection (SKS) under the organization of Thomas Buchli, President of the Swiss Tibet Friendship Association.
During the meeting with the eminent dignitaries, they discussed zealously on the present environmental condition of Tibet, the proliferating number of self-immolation, the Chinese immigration in Tibet and the state of Tibetan language as well as the conditions of political prisoners and curtailment of religious freedom.
The Swiss Tibet Friendship Association assured that they would work especially towards the issues of Tibet’s environment.
The Tibetan Parliamentary Speaker also appealed to the concerned authorities of Zurich and the members of the Swiss National Council on rendering necessary support and redress of grievances to the exiled Tibetan community in Switzerland.
He later met with Jampa Tsering Samdho, the Tibetan parliamentarian from Europe constituency of the 16th Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile, Ngodup Dorjee, Representative of the Office of Tibet as well as the President and the Vice-President of the Tibetan community of Swiss and Liechtenstein.
Mr. Speaker left Switzerland for Delhi on Sept 6.
